"Its all about the ratings"

I just wanted to talk about one of the last classes we had where we had talked about where we had discussed tv ratings for the super bowl and world cup.

I thought it was very interesting to see that in '98 tv ratings were at 37 billion for the world cup and in '10 in the U.S. alone there were over 24 million that tuned into the world cup. I think small stat really shows how much more popular soccer is throughout the world . Also the 2010 super bowl had 106.5 million viewers which in turn shows how much more popular football is in the U.S. compared to soccer. Not that it should be to much surprise but it is interesting to see the actual numbers of viewership.

I also think it would be very interesting to see the cost of a commercial spot for the world cup whether it be in the U.S. or in Europe compared to a 30second 3million dollar ad here in the U.S. during the super bowl. The cost of an ad in the super bowl is incredible to what the cost would be during a normal game im sure however I am just curious to see what companies do over seas for spots on tv during the world cup because they are able to show more or say more in their ad's compared to ours.

SM 3950 1st Blog

Hey everyone my name is Jordan Martin and this is my 1st time ever doing a blog. So I am interested to see how this is going to go but if we get to talk about sports I think I will make it through. This hopefully is one of my last semesters here at BG I have been here for 4 years now.

My sports interests are all over the board. I watch everything however hockey, football, baseball, basketball are my favorites. I am from Columbus so naturally my teams of interests are the buckeyes and the Columbus blue jackets I also like the Columbus Clippers and enjoy catching some of their games at the new ball park they have. Im also a big fan of the Columbus Crew mainly because I had an internship with them and was able to see alot of new things and behind the scenes duties of what it takes to run an event in sport.

As far as globalization and the basis of this class, I am interested to gain a little more insight on the international aspect of how we are perceived in sport as sports teams and businesses. I think the globalization of sport is absolutely beneficial because it opens up revenue for all sports and gives not only businesses an sport teams an opportunity but, allows athletes from other countries opportunities as well that they may have not had before.

All in all I am excited for this class and the discussions were going to get into..
